Chance The Rapper Totally Stole The Show In The 2017 Emmys Opener

, , , , ,

The opening of the Emmys was epic as Stephen Colbert danced and sung about how “everything is better on TV.” However, the best surprise came from someone we all know and love. Chance The Rapper in the Emmys opening was amazing. He appeared and laid down the hottest verse — probably of the entire night, and fans more than agreed. In fact, these tweets about Chance The Rapper’s Emmys rap are showing the rapper some serious love, and thanks to the internet, they’ll live on forever.

Everyone knew that Stephen Colbert was going to create an unforgettable opening for this year’s Emmy Awards, but we didn’t know how epic. The upbeat song weaved together the biggest shows of the year while taking a few jabs at the current political climate. He sang about TV as a distraction from the horrific events of the real world, pointing at climate change, allegations of Trump’s relations with Putin, and the resurgence of Nazis. After the big song, Colbert joked about Trump again, pointing out that if anybody has time to watch all the new TV shows this year, apparently it’s him. He then joked, “Look forward to the tweets.”

While the song was clever and hilarious, the biggest surprise came from Chance the Rapper. There was no shortage of celebrity cameos, but the fans have been reacting the strongest to Chance. Staying true to his signature style — his words were powerful. He rapped about taking action in the world and making a difference.

He (honestly) said,

I love television it’s a pleasant distraction, but just imagine taking action.

Understatement: Fans were all about it.

Politics was a hot topic during this year’s Emmys. It was actually intended to be that way. On  the Friday, Sept. 15, before the awards show, Colbert noted that it would be obtuse to not mention Trump during the Emmys. The host pointed out that despite all the huge TV shows being honored at the Emmys, the biggest TV star of the year was Trump, who was best known for hosting the reality competition series  before his election as president. He said,

The biggest TV star of this year is undoubtedly Donald Trump. No one’s close. You know, how like the Bible outsells every book of all time. Donald Trump is the Bible of the 2016-2017 television season. If you don’t include Donald Trump as a TV star this year, you’re lying.

Colbert kept his opening number super topical. The addition of Chance made it even more perfect.

Twitter user @_lexfly had the truest Tweet of the night, in my opinion.

I just wanna be best friends with Chance and have dance battles, improv rap battles, and sing offs. @chancetherapper and pray together.

HONESTLY, SAME. If there’s one opinion that we all share it’s clearly that Chance The Rapper is the best. Besides killing the music game, Chance holds his family very close to him. At 24, he’s won three Grammys and welcomed his 2-year-old daughter, Kensli Bennett, into the world. She’s cuter than any Grammy in my opinion — Chance probably feels the same way.

What else has Chance accomplished? Wow, I’m glad you asked. He headlined Lollapalooza 2017 and it sold out in record time. He also made headlines by donating $1 million to Chicago’s public schools. So, he’s basically better than I ever hope to be.

Next time you feel like doing something good for the world, just think: what would Chance The Rapper do? He would probably make a smash hit that wins a Grammy, save a puppy from a burning building, headline a show real quick, and be home in time for dinner with his daughter. Sigh. You’re the best, Chance.
